Amid all of the excitement about
Christmas, it can be easy for some of us to forget that the coming of the New
Year is just as special.
However, it’s certainly not something that we’ve forgotten here at Manor of Groves. That’s why we are offering multiple New Year’s Eve events this year from which visitors to our hotel can choose, and which both show why we should be your first-choice New Year’s Eve dinner venue.
What do we have to offer this New Year’s Eve?
If you and your beloved are planning to be in our part of Hertfordshire for the New Year, why not take advantage of the fantastic party that we have planned for New Year’s Eve? It all starts with a drinks reception, followed by a delectable dinner in our Colonnade Suite. Then, it will simply be a case of you partying the night away with the help of our live singer and first-class disco.
The evening certainly promises to be a special one as far as the cuisine to be served is concerned. After a glass of Champagne on arrival, you will be able to choose from such starters as braised lamb shoulder, leek and potato soup and crab tian, before moving onto the main dish for which your options include the likes of beef Wellington, pan-fried fillet sea bream and aubergine stuffed with pine nut risotto.
Then, it’s onto the dessert – expect options ranging from dark chocolate torte and cinnamon and nutmeg cheesecake to caramel, white chocolate and hazelnut tart. Finally, as if all of that wasn’t enough, we’ll even throw a New Year’s Brunch into the package, served between 9:00am and 11:00am on New Year’s Day.
But that isn’t all that we have planned
As mentioned earlier, we do give you more than one option for how you can spend New Year’s Eve with us. In fact, the other big event that we have planned for the night is a buffet meal and disco that enables you to welcome in 2018 amid a wonderfully festive atmosphere in our Manor Suite.
Just imagine being able to help yourself to such delicious dishes as beef bourguignon, salmon supreme and stuffed aubergine, followed by dessert options including toffee cheesecake and dark chocolate torte. It all adds up to what promises to be a very special night indeed, not least given the great-value entry fee of £39.50 per person.
Download our complete Christmas and New Year events brochure today, and you’ll discover just what it is that makes this very special time of year even more so when you spend it at Manor of Groves. We certainly aren’t just any old New Year’s Eve dinner venue!

You only need to download and read our complete Christmas brochure to realise that we take the festive season pretty seriously here at Manor of Groves. There’s actually a whole programme of events awaiting you, all of which helps to make an already very special time of year even more so when you choose to spend it in this especially idyllic corner of Hertfordshire.
We love Christmas so much, in fact, that we’ve decided to give one of our perennial favourite regular events a suitably festive twist. Yes, that’s right – we’re talking about our Traditional Afternoon Tea, which we have turned into Christmas Afternoon Teas to get you and your friends into the mood for all things Yuletide.
First of all... what are our Traditional Afternoon Teas?
If you don’t know about them yet, let’s just say that you’ve been missing out on a treat for all of this time! Actually, we can say a little more – we’re a proudly historic venue here at Manor of Groves, so we take similarly great pride in offering Traditional Afternoon Teas that couldn’t be more traditionally, quintessentially British.
Our usual Traditional Afternoon Teas, contrary to what their name may suggest, give you a choice between tea and coffee. Indeed, past attendees have been able to enjoy the likes of Traditional English, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Assam and Camomile, together with a lovely sandwich selection, scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and an assortment of cakes.
So, how are we doing the old favourite differently this Yuletide?
Well, you’ve got quite the choice before you – so let’s start with the Christmas Afternoon Teas that we have running throughout November and December. They’re available between 12:30pm and 5:30pm, cost just £17.95 per person and for that outlay, enable you to help yourself to dainty finger sandwiches, freshly made scones, afternoon cakes and mince pies.
Alternatively, if you’re likely to be in the local area on Sunday 10th December, why not book a place on the Festive Afternoon Tea that we have lined up for that day? The pricing is similar to the aforementioned Christmas Afternoon Teas, at just £17.95 for adults and £8.95 for children aged between three and 12 years old, and it’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy Afternoon Tea while listening to our talented local choir.
The above are just a few of the many events here at Manor of Groves that promise to make this year’s Christmas programme possibly our best yet. However, we would advise you to secure your place at your preferred events early to avoid disappointment!

For those who book weddings with us right through the year, one of the biggest reasons that many of them cite for doing so is undoubtedly our Manor Suite. Even by the standards of our beautifully restored Georgian residence, it is an impressive space, with its exclusive bar, entrance hall, cloakroom, toilets and even a private powder room, not to mention doors that lead out into our magnificent Oriental Garden.
It’s hard to think of a better backdrop, then, for a memorable festive party, and it’s fair to say that here at Manor of Groves, we really know how to ‘do’ festive parties.
What’s included in our Yuletide party package?
You can download our Christmas brochure to learn more about everything we’ve got lined up for the festive period. But if it’s a party in our Manor Suite that you’re especially interested in holding, it can be booked right now for the Saturday of 25th November, 2nd, 9th or 16th December, or the Friday of 1st, 8th, 15th or 22nd December, or the Thursday of 14th or 21st December.
Whether your party consists of two or 400 people, everyone can expect a fabulous time, courtesy of our delicious three-course dinner, coffee and mints, followed by a band and first-class disco to help you to party the night away.
Just imagine it: a first course of ham hock and pea terrine, spicy fruit chutney and toasted sourdough, followed by turkey paupiette stuffed with chestnut, orange and port, before moving onto mushroom, brie and spinach tart. Then what? Well, it’ll be time for dessert, of course, when you can help yourself to a duo of mini Bailey’s cheesecake and mini chocolate cherry.
Finally, coffee and mints will be available to conclude your dining, before you head to the dance floor!

explore the best of both. That is no less the case during the festive season, when a host of seasonal events awaits.
This being the heart of traditional England, you won’t be surprised to learn that both counties offer a generous complement of old-fashioned Christmas fairs, not just at the height of the seasonal shopping season in late December, but right through the last months of the year.
A feast of markets and fairs to usher in the festive season
With such exciting Yuletide fairs and markets as the Beth Chatto Christmas Fayre in Colchester (25th and 26th November), Maldon Vintage Christmas Fayre (30th November), St Albans Christmas Market (25th November to 23rd December), Hatfield House Frost Fair (16th to 19th November) and Bishop’s Stortford Christmas Fayre (2nd December) all lined up, there will be no shortage of Christmas spirit in evidence across the two counties over the next few months.
This does not even consider the wealth of other all-year-round attractions in Hertfordshire and Essex that continue to open their doors throughout the festive period – including country houses, art galleries, museums and more.

While we are certainly a highly rated venue for Christmas parties, in our latest blog post, we thought we would focus in particular on our legendary Traditional Afternoon Teas, and how we make them even more special at this most important and significant time of year.
More than just an afternoon tea
If you have attended one of our Traditional Afternoon Teas previously, you’ll know just what pleasant occasions they can be. Come along to our Festive Afternoon Tea on Sunday 10th December, however, and you will be in for even more of a treat, in the form of the opportunity to enjoy our amazingly talented local choir as you savour your afternoon tea.
As usual with our Traditional Afternoon Teas, it is recommended that you book in advance for this one. The entry price is £17.95 for adults and £8.95 for children aged between three and 12.
But if you can’t make that date, don’t worry, because we will also be holding Christmas Afternoon Teas in November and December. As you might expect, they represent something of a twist on our usual year-round Traditional Afternoon Teas – we’ve been careful not to mess too much with a formula that we know so many of you love, while still giving everything an appealingly festive feel.
That means you’ll get to enjoy dainty finger sandwiches, freshly made scones, afternoon cakes and mince pies – all for just £17.95 per person. They will be available between 12:30pm and 5:00pm, and you can even enjoy a Christmas Tipple for an additional charge.
There’s just nowhere better to spend Christmas
Naturally, Manor of Groves is here for you as always throughout the Christmas period, whether you wish to stay in one of our well-appointed and spacious rooms for several nights, or take full advantage of our packed events calendar at this extremely special time of year.

When preparing for festive celebrations, it can really pay to plan ahead. Now is a good time to start preparing for a Christmas party to be held at our Hertfordshire venue. However, what makes Manor of Groves such a special spot if you want your party to have a traditional festive vibe?
You can throw in many festive staples
Many elements of a traditional Christmas get-together have probably already emerged in your mind, including bright Christmas lights and, among the food on offer, succulent mince pies and mulled wine.
We can provide all of that; still, the suitability of our Georgian manor house goes much further than this. Many of the now-familiar festive conventions were present or rooted in the Georgian period of British history that lasted from 1714 until 1830.
You can look to history for inspiration
We can certainly offer opportunities for dancing – which, as we all know from Jane Austen novels and screen adaptations, was a popular Georgian pastime. Christmas pudding – then called plum pudding due to its prominent inclusion of dried plums – was reportedly restored in popularity on the country's Christmas dinner tables after King George I was allegedly served this dish in 1714.
Meanwhile, a Georgian Christmas party's centrepiece would be the "Twelfth Cake". It was given in slices to all household members and was a forerunner of the modern Christmas cake.
A secluded but still accessible historical venue
You are probably already thinking of many people who you would love to invite for a Manor of Groves knees-up. You will likely be heartened to know that our hotel, despite its location in countryside encompassing some 150 acres, can be easily reached from major motorways and airports.
It will take only about 10 minutes for someone on your guest list to drive from Stansted Airport to our beautiful building. Furthermore, up to 200 cars can make use of the on-site parking that we provide for free.
Our website includes a form that you
can fill in and submit to request our 2017 Christmas Brochure for downloading. Whatever
the nature of your own Christmas party, a warm welcome awaits at our private events venue in the UK.

The main objective of your charity event may be to fundraise for your charity rather than give your guests an impressive venue to marvel at, but that doesn’t mean the venue isn’t important. Indeed, it is precisely because your event is what matters most that when you come to choose a charity events venue in the UK, you should ensure yours ticks all of the essential boxes.
Vast experience and capability in holding special events
Here at Manor of Groves, we have a level of experience in holding special events that is unmatched by almost any comparable venue in Hertfordshire. We are continually hosting such events as traditional afternoon teas, hen parties, prom or graduation parties, celebrations of life and – of course – weddings, which is one of our very greatest specialities.
As a consequence, we have also accumulated considerable experience of catering to the most specific requests made by those booking our well-appointed and spacious suites.
If you are holding a relatively modest charity event, for example, there may be enough room in our Colonnade Suite, with its capacity of as many as 150 people. Alternatively, it may be the Manor Suite, with its air-conditioned adaptable space that can accommodate up to 500 guests, that provides the perfect backdrop for your event, not least as it also features such amenities as an exclusive bar, cloakroom, entrance hall and toilets.
Talk to Manor of Groves about your requirements today
Would you like to provide your charity event’s guests with the benefit of succulent and varied cuisine in one of our elegant banqueting suites? What about even giving them to chance to book a spacious bedroom in which to stay overnight, if the event is likely to end late and they may not be able to easily drive home? There’s even a par 71, 6,237-yard golf course at which they may wish to tee off during the day ahead of your event – yes, it’s open to visitors and not just hotel residents.
Whatever you want, need or expect
from your charity’s next event, our seasoned and capable coordinators can
oversee every aspect of it to help ensure its success. It’s just one more
reason why Manor of Groves is such an enduringly popular charity events venue
in the UK.
